WCAG 2.2 Level AA Audit of Vellutto.nl (August 2025)

We conducted an accessibility audit of the public-facing pages of Vellutto (https://www.vellutto.nl/) based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. The audit covered the homepage, the “All Products” category page (https://www.vellutto.nl/category/all-products), and a product page (e.g., https://www.vellutto.nl/product-page/espressokopje), which represent high-traffic sections of the site. The audit included manual checks for keyboard navigation, zoom/reflow behavior, and HTML inspection via curl, with cross-reference to official W3C documentation.

Note: Developer tools were unavailable for this audit. Some elements are marked “Needs confirmation” and should be verified using tools such as axe or WAVE, and by testing dynamic content like forms and modals.

Executive Summary

Overall Conformance:
Vellutto.nl partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. While the site demonstrates good structure and accessible practices in many areas, several key issues must be resolved to achieve full compliance.

Key Strengths:

  • Correct use of semantic HTML and descriptive alt text on product images.

  • Full keyboard operability with visible focus indicators.

  • Responsive design works well at 150–200% zoom and on narrow screens.

  • Consistent navigation and page titling across all sections.

High-Impact Issues:

  • Missing skip link (SC 2.4.1): No "Skip to main content" link is available for keyboard users.

  • Insufficient contrast (SC 1.4.3 & 1.4.11): Some placeholder text and focus outlines may not meet minimum contrast ratios.

  • Missing accessible names (SC 2.5.3 & 4.1.2): Custom icons and buttons lack aria-labels.

  • Inaccessible forms (SC 3.3.1–3.3.3): Form inputs use only placeholders, and error messages lack clarity or are missing entirely.

Quick Fixes:

  • Add a skip link to bypass repetitive navigation.

  • Add aria-labels or visible <label> elements for all input fields and icons.

  • Improve color contrast and focus outline visibility using WCAG contrast checkers.

Long-Term Improvements:

  • Implement ARIA live regions for form status messages.

  • Fully test third-party plugins or scripts for accessibility compliance.

  • Review all dynamic behavior for consistent keyboard and screen reader support.
